2011 Gratitude Challenge-November 9

Today I am very thankful for adoption and for the wonderful adoption example that we have in the Bible – of God’s adopting us as His children.

Adoption has played a HUGE part in making my family what it is. Way back in 1985, my parents adopted my 2 brothers from Korea. I was almost 15 years old at the time, and it made a very big impression on me.  Not only did I have 2 new brothers (after 15 years of being an only child), but it became a very real option for me years later when we were looking to expand our family.

In 2000, Brian and I headed to Vietnam for the first time – to adopt our daughter Gracie.  The experience was just surreal to me; but one thing that stood out to me the whole time that we were over there was the idea that this wouldn’t be our last adoption.

Brian didn’t feel the same way.  Being the financial manager in our home, he always said we couldn’t afford another adoption.  But, God had other plans . . . and 6 years later, my mom traveled with me to Vietnam to bring home our son Ian.  (While I know that Ian has completed our family, I do long to return to Vietnam someday and introduce my children to their heritage).

Last month, my youngest brother and his wife traveled to Korea to bring home their son Grant.  I think it’s so neat that a Korean-born adoptee was able to return to his country of birth to bring home his newly adopted son.  There’s something to be said for that!

Has your life been blessed by adoption?  If so, I’d love to hear about it.

Wow that is a beautiful story Heidi.  Now I'm going to go get my tissue to wipe these tears.

That is a wonderful story, Heidi. How God has blessed your family through adoption! Except for God's marvelous blessing of spiritual adoption, I cannot say that my life has been directly affected by adoption. Yet I can and am happy for all my friends who are blessed by it. :)
