Small Talk Six – My Dad & Me

SmallTalkSix175

It’s been awhile since I’ve participated in Small Talk Six, and this week’s topic seems a little hard.  But, I’m going to put some thought into it and give it a whirl.

Today’s topic is “6 things you and your Dad both enjoy.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . .

My dad and I both enjoy:

  1. Getting together as a family
  2. Food prepared on the grill
  3. Photography
  4. Computers
  5. Relaxing with our pets
  6. My kids!

Small Talk Six: Look Who’s Coming to Dinner

SmallTalkSix175 It’s time for another installment of Small Talk Six.  Today’s topic is a tough one - “6 famous people you would love to have dinner with.”

Hmmm. . . how to choose.  Guess I’ll go with these:

1. Glenn Beck – today my hubby and I are going out to celebrate our anniversary –so I’m picking Glenn Beck just for Brian – I know he’d LOVE to meet him!

2. Tim Hawkins – he’s our family’s favorite comedian and I could so use a good laugh right about now.  Can you imagine eating with a comedian?! We’re anxious enough to hear him live at the Midwest Homeschool Convention in April!

3. Steven Curtis Chapman – we’ve had opportunity to meet him after one of his concerts and he’s just so “real”.  Love that!

4. The Founding Fathers of our nation – I’d be quite curious to hear what they’d have to say about the state of affairs our nation is in right now

5. Max Lucado – LOVE this man’s books and his ministry (and his entertainment armoire in my living room – wink!)

6. Beth Moore – I feel like I know her personally after doing several of her studies.  I’ve been reading peoples’ thoughts on her newest book – So Long Insecurity – and I’d love a chance to chat with her about it over dinner!

Small Talk Six: Who? Me? Control Freak?

SmallTalkSix175 I’m a day late on Small Talk Six, but I enjoy this meme so thought I’d post my answers to yesterday’s topic today.  The topic is - “6 things you would rather do yourself, even if you could pay someone else to do them.”

Here are my answers:

1. Teach my children – we’ve tried public school and don’t really think it’s an option at this point.  So, the alternative would be to pay for private school; and I know I can do just as well (if not better) teaching them myself.  So, we choose to homeschool.

2. Wash my dishes – I don’t know why, but this is one area that I tend to be obsessive over.  We don’t have a dishwasher and I don’t like anyone offering to do my dishes when they come to visit.  My mom knows it’s a big no-no to even offer!

3. Fold my clothes – I’d love if my kids could help, but nobody seems to be able to do it to suit me.

4. Plan my vacations – sorry, no travel agency for me.  I have too much fun making the plans to ever use an agent!

5. Drive me around – I don’t trust other people’s driving. LOL

6. Do my job for me – though I am trying to get better at asking for help, as needed. :)

What about YOU?  Is there something specific that you just prefer to do by yourself?

Small Talk Six: Favorite Love Songs

SmallTalkSix175 Seems like Small Talk Six rolled around rather quickly – but that’s probably because I did it mid-week this past week. :)  Today’s topic is to share “6 love songs that make you melt”.

Since I don’t really listen to much more than Christian Contemporary music these days (and the country I hear playing through Ashley’s speakers), my list will be compiled of songs from my past.  Here goes ---

1. Firehouse – Love of a Lifetime

This is “our song”.  Though it wasn’t actually played at our wedding, the lyrics were listed on the  back of our wedding bulletin.  I thought I’d “test” Brian and ask if he recognized the song – sure enough, he did!

And in no particular order – the rest of my list ---

2. Shania Twain & Bryan White – From This Moment

3. Tim McGraw & Faith Hill – It’s Your Love

4. Clint Black & Lisa Hartman Black – When I Said I Do

5. Aerosmith – Don’t Want to Miss a Thing

6. Celine Dion – My Heart Will Go On

And because I love music and it’s so hard to narrow this down, here are a few honorable mentions (I hope this doesn’t get me kicked out of Small Talk Six) ---

* Extreme – More Than Words
* Tricia Yearwood – How Do I Live
* Anything by Kenny G
* FFH – Waltz for Jennifer
*Steven Curtis Chapman – I Will Be Here
*REO Speedwagon – Keep on Loving You
*REO Speedwagon – I Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore
* Savage Garden – Truly, Madly, Deeply

And I’ll stop there – just because I need to get some other things done today (though I’d be more than happy to sit around listening to music all day!)  As you can clearly tell, I pretty much like all genres of music!

Small Talk Six: Thinking Pink

One of the most enjoyable things to me about the TOS Homeschool Crew try-out process is seeing all the various blogs. I enjoy "meeting" new people and seeing things on their blogs that are new to me. One such thing that I discovered is the Small Talk Six meme hosted by Mom Dot.  This meme is really supposed to be done on Saturdays; but, I figure since I'm new to it, it would be ok for me to post on a Wednesday.

This week's topic was Thinking Pink.  We're to list 6 things that we like that are pink.  So, here goes (in no particular order):
  • My Homeschooling with Heart totebag from The Old Schoolhouse Magazine (the combination of brown and pink is so much fun!)  I don't have a picture of it on this computer, or I'd share.  I will say this, though --- there are new totebags coming this spring - brown with sky blue trim - and they are also WAY CUTE!
  • Baby girl clothes!  Is there anything cuter?  Seriously!
  • Strawberry ice cream (but only the kind with the hunks of berry in it - and only when it's mixed with vanilla and chocolate; aka Neapolitan)
  • Pink toenails in the summer (I never paint my toes in the winter months)
  • Cherry poptarts (is there any other flavor?!)
  • The sky in the evening (you know the whole "red at night, sailor's delight" saying?  well, it's really pink and it means that the next day will be a nice one!  I love that!)
