OUT with the old, IN with the new

Seems like so many things have changed this past year.  I’ve always been rather resistant to change, so maybe God is trying to tell me something.  Anyway, rather than waxing nostalgic here, I thought I’d just show you pictures of the latest change around here:

Picture 102 Our OLD Mercury Mystique.  It’s a ‘97 with 140,000 miles on it.  Aside from the “dummy” tire, it really doesn’t look that bad, does it?

Looks are deceiving, though.  Several weeks ago, I backed out of my parents’ driveway at night, only to have the car stall in the middle of the road.  It wouldn’t start.  I panicked! I was about ready to jump out.  Trucks come barreling down over the hill and I didn’t want to be smooshed.  Fortunately, it started and I got home that night.

Since that time, the car has been exhibiting characteristics that led us to believe it was “on it’s last leg”.  The latest news – it needs a new transmission.  Even a used one, with labor, would be at least $1,000.  Doesn’t seem entirely wise to put that kind of money into an older car.  So, last Thursday, we decided it was time to do some car shopping.

On the way to the bank to pick up the title, the car stalled twice – once when we were about to pull out on a main road!  Then, when we went to leave the bank, it wouldn’t start.  Protesting, maybe?

Anyway, it will protest no more.  Today it’s going to the local junkyard.  Funny thing is, they’ll pay us for the scrap metal – and we figure it’ll be about the same amount as it was worth as a trade-in ($175)!

On Friday, we picked up this:

Picture 100Cute, huh?  I think this is the first time Brian has actually owned a BRAND NEW car (though the Mercury only had 6,000 miles on it when we got it) and the 2nd time for me (since my ‘88 1/2 Escort – boy, I miss that car!)

I have to admit something - - - I tried to talk Brian out of this Yaris.  See, I thought it would be really nice of him to just take the van.  Then, I could get this:

Picture 094 Or this:

Picture 095 I told the salesman I’d be back in two years!  We’ll see . . .

Blogger is being finicky and I can't see any of your pictures. I will have to come back later and see the new car and your dream cars.

Todd never gets the new car either. We actually just picked up a Chevy Blazer for Victoria. It is such a nice one. My brother's friend was selling it for a good price.

Cute. Stalling cars are not cool. Glad you were able to get a new vehicle! I was thinking when I scrolled down tho-it may have been a 69 Charger painted orange with the Confederate flag upon the roof...hmm. I must admit-I was a tad disappointed in Brian. LOL

Sheri~ Brian did let you down this time, didn't he? Actually, he'd LOVE to get an old Charger and fix it up for Ashley. We know where there is one - just sitting in someone's yard, literally rotting - we may have to call and inquire!
