Since we’re leaving later this afternoon for the Midwest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati, I thought I better get my list for next year’s school books together in case we decide to do some shopping. I’m rather surprised, really, because it doesn’t appear that we will have to actually purchase much at all. Anyway, here’s the plan (bolded items are what I need to buy) ---
FOR ASHLEY (11th grade):
Math – finish Abeka’s Consumer Math and/or take a Geometry course offered at a local homeschool class/group
Language Arts – Total Language Plus: 1. Around the World in 80 Days, 2. Pride & Prejudice, and 3. The Scarlet Pimpernel
History – All American History II
Science – undecided (she already has her required 3 science credits, we have Astronomy here, but she’s thinking more along the lines of Anatomy or Marine Biology – any suggestions?)
Foreign Language – Greek (getting this from my high school Greek teacher!)
FOR GRACIE (6th grade):
Math – Abeka 6
Language Arts – Total Language Plus: 1. Caddie Woodlawn, 2. My Side of the Mountain, and 3. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
History – All American History II
Science – Land Animals of the 6th Day
Latin – Great Latin Adventure
FOR IAN (preschool):
Things we already have on hand – books from Critical Thinking Co., Alpha Beats and MathTutor DVD’s, etc.
Wow! As I look over this, I really don’t have much shopping to do this year! That’s a blessing (as it will save us money), but it almost makes me sad that I don’t have much to buy and I have 5 conventions to go to this spring! I may have to find some “extras” to purchase! :)
What is on YOUR convention list for this year?

I'm so excited for Midwest! On my list to purchase are Institute for Excellence in Writing's Teaching Writing Structure and Style, and Math U See workbooks for Gamma(Makayla), Primer(Joseph), and another Primer(Emma). Beyond that it is just fun stuff!
What about the Marine Biology from Apologia? Since we live fairly close to the ocean, we are planning for that one.
We have CHEA coming up in July. So glad to hear I'm not the only one thinking about next year. I'm already piecing it together and I'm learning to tone it down for my kids. I used to pick so much stuff and it's good to see how others fit necessary items together without picking out 12 subjects. :) Thank you for you sanity!!
Great list! Okay - Total Language Plus...should I be looking in to that one? I need something for literature. ;-)
I wrote a similar post earlier. You can see it here: http://locustpointeacademy.blogspot.com/2010/04/thoughts-about-2010-2011-school-year.html
But I think all I really need to buy in Cincy is Teaching Textbooks Math and Total Language Plus for Charlotte's Web, Shiloh, and The Whipping Boy.
