What are your kids drinking this summer?

Here in PA, we have been experiencing extremely hot temperatures this week.  We’re talking upper 90’s with high humidity.  Ugh!

Weather like this has me thinking about what we are drinking.  It’s important to make sure that we’re all staying hydrated in this weather.  My kids are picky drinkers, though.  All Ian ever wants is “chocolate milk & pink milk” (which is a combination of chocolate and strawberry powdered Quik and milk). He goes through a gallon of milk every few days.  Gracie, on the other hand, barely drinks.  And when she does, she’d prefer sugared drinks.  No water or milk for that girl.

When I was presented with the opportunity to review Kidstrong, I was excited.  Kidstrong is a 100% natural, low in sugar drink for kids, containing 22 vitamins and minerals, and NO high-fructose corn syrup.  Kidstrong is a healthy alternative to Gaterade, Powerade, and other such drinks.  But, the question is does it taste good?  and will my picky drinkers like it?

We received 4 bottles of Kidstrong – 2 orange-flavored and 2 grape-flavored.  Gracie had 2 and Ian had 2.  I made the mistake of taking a sip when the drinks weren’t yet cold – I wasn’t impressed.  But, once they had a chance to chill in the refrigerator for awhile, the kids drank them right down!

Kidstrong is specifically designed for children between the ages of 5 and 13.  It’s aimed at combating childhood obesity (which seems to be a growing epidemic here in the states).  Now, my kids are anything but obese (as a matter of fact, Gracie is quite the opposite!); but I still wish for them to be healthy and want to instill healthy eating and drinking habits in them.  And the best time to start is when they are still young.

If your kids are hooked on things like Kool-aid, Gatorade, soft drinks, or the new fad – energy drinks like Red Bull, etc. – you should seriously consider looking into an alternative.  Those drinks are filled with sugar (and caffeine).  Drinking them in excess is not healthy.

If, like my kids, you have  trouble getting your kids to drink good old fashioned water, then I’d recommend checking out Kidstrong

NOTE: I received a sample of Kidstrong in exchange for sharing this review.  The thoughts herein were not influenced by any outside sources and are entirely my own.

Hey Heidi, We are big water drinkers in our house. And even tho Bridgette isn't a "little kid" anymore she still prefers water over anything else...don't know how we managed that, but she does. Not that she doesn't ever drink soda or other stuff but water is her first choice. I should probably get her to drink more milk, but hopefully she's getting enough calcium in other foods like cheese and broccoli. However, when she was younger (toddler - maybe age 10 or so?) she did drink a lot of milk and juice, and so this probably would have be great for her!
