Holiday Bliss 2010 – December 14th

1105136_christmas_balls Today I’ve got Christmas packages on my mind.  Yesterday, I mailed out 4 Christmas packages, and still have one more package here that needs to be filled and mailed.

Do you have any loved ones far away that you exchange Christmas packages with?

The tradition, for our family, started when Brian and I were newlyweds.  When I was 17, I received a pen-pal from Teen Magazine.  We stayed in very close contact until she got married about 2 1/2 years later.  A few years later, after I was married too, my mom handed me an envelope – a Christmas card – that had come in the mail from Laurie (my pen-pal).  We were back in business!

We started traveling to visit with one another.  (They live in western Ohio.)  After Ashley was born, they just doted on her as  they were unable to have children of their own.  So, the Christmas packages will jam-packed with fun stuff for Ashley – who just loved her Uncle Tony and Aunt Laurie, as they affectionately have been known ever since!

It’s funny how times change!  Now, so many years later, we have 3 children and they just had their 7th!  We don’t see them nearly as much (it’s been 2 years since we’ve seen them last – and that was just Ashley and I – we stopped in on our way to Indiana for a writing conference).  But, we still send our packages!

Over the years, we’ve added more friends who receive Christmas packages from me/us as well. :)  Yesterday, I mailed packages to Ohio, Arkansas, Florida, and Colorado! Since I do all the shopping around here, and Brian and I rarely exchange much in the way of gifts these days, it’s always fun to get those little surprises that come in the Christmas packages!

I can really relate. I have friends in FL and GA that I send gifts to~ha~costs more postage sometimes than the gift!

I'm a glutton, tho...it's such a challenge to wrap glass and GET IT THERE unbroken! wooot!

Friends make life SWEET! Thanks for sharing!

I do have to send out packages. When my brother was active military, he was all over, and he's still far away now. =(
I have a few best girlfriends scattered around, and my husband's family in California.

We do not send out packages except to our parents. We do bake cookies for Bryans co-workers, a few local friends, and our neighbors though. ;-) I bet it is fun to get those surprises in the mail.
