random thoughts from Florida

So, I’m sitting here in our suite with Ian while Brian and the girls are playing pool or ping pong (or “ding dong” as Ian called it) with my boss’s kids, and thought I’d take the time for a quick blog entry.  Here are just some random thoughts (that I’m sure will become more elaborate Destination Disney and/or Magical Blogorail posts in the future) . . .

  • It’s hot, HOT, HOT in Florida in May!
Actually, my friend Lance from Florida Dream Homes says that the temperatures this week are record-breaking.  Figures!
  • I think the FPEA committee should consider moving the convention date.  I’m casting my personal vote for February or March.  Just sayin’ . . .
  • We really enjoyed our first time at a Disney resort (Port Orleans Riverside).  It was definitely an experience that we are all  glad that we had.  I still sees both pros and cons to staying on property (but I’ll elaborate on those thoughts later).
  • Not everyone who goes to WDW is honest.
We spent Saturday at EPCOT, only to find our stroller missing when we came out of the American Adventure pavilion.  We filed a report with security, only to find the stroller parked in the next country (Japan) – sans our wonderful Disney spray-fan and my camera bag (with all my camera equipment in it).  We’ve checked with Guest Relations and later Lost & Found – of course, NOTHING.  I think someone thought they were getting a nice, new camera; but fortunately, I had the camera with me.  It makes me sad to think there are people like that in the world – especially Walt Disney World.  I mean, seriously, people, it’s supposed to be a happy place, right?!
  • There are still some good-hearted people left in this world, though.  The clerks at Best Buy kindly swiped a frequent shopper card for us, which gave us 20% off a new camera bag and battery charger.  While it was money I wasn’t planning to spend, at least we were able to replace these things.
  • The Disney Vacation Club truly is a no-pressure sales pitch.  If you’re invited to check it out – go for it.  It comes with complimentary ice cream (yum!), some gift cards for the family (which my kids LOVED), and transportation to wherever you want to go afterwards.
  • The Wyndham Timeshare sales pitch, on the other hand, I wouldn’t recommend.  Watch for my thoughts on today’s experience coming later – in a guest post on Lance’s blog.
  • Meeting up with friends is always great!  Here are 3 of my favorite people – one I’ve met before, one I just met the other day, and one I’ve been friends with for a long, long time . . .

Tomorrow we’re off for a day at the Magic Kingdom.  I better wear sunscreen!  (Yes, I really am THAT red!)

Yup, it sure is hot here. And it won't let up until mid-October. (Actually we had a freak cold front last week - some days it only got up to 82 and it was dry - I miss that now). You'd have been disappointed if FPEA had been in February -- too cold!! Enjoy the rest of your visit.

Heidi, you look like you're having fun, despite the stolen camera equipment and the sunburn! Better find some aloe vera gel and some sunscreen this week. :) Have a great time! :)

It is wonderful to be able to spend time with friends at Disney. We've enjoyed Disney with my brother and his family and some of our homeschool friends.

Heidi, I didn't realize you were really that red (burned). I thought it was the picture :( Hope you heal soon :)

It was great to hear how it's going. I have been thinking of you at Disney. Sorry about your camera. Glad you enjoyed staying at Port Orleans and I look forward to hearing all about it. I was surprised how hot it was in April, it was 90+ every day. We had been in April before and it was in the high 70's. The weather has gone mad. Enjoy the remainder of your trip.

Looks like you're having a fun trip and you didn't let the stolen camera bag and spray bottle get you down. Stay cool! Looking forward to hearing more.

Has been such a joy to be able to get out of my room and experience the HOT but beautiful Florida I love - with a girlfriend I love dearly! Sorry it has not been all we dreamed of at the start, but God is good to still bring beauty out of the sun-scorched ashes of life. HUGS and I look forward to some more good memories! ~ Becky from There Is Hope Blog

Sounds like your having a good time - minus the heat. It is VERY hot and VERY dry here. We got hot quick.
I'm not sure why FPEA does their convention on Memorial Day.. but it seems to work. At least this year they went back to the other hotel. It's much nicer there.
Enjoy your time here in FL. Wish we could hook up.. Enjoy the Magic Kingdom :-)

It sure was HOT this weekend! We arrived at Universal at 1pm on Friday and we planned on staying until 6 but only lasted a few hours...lol! The next two days we worked the 9-1 schedule and then headed to the hotel pool! Too hot for us! Hope you guys are having fun but bummer about the camera bag. :(
