Mornings with Jesus from Guideposts

mornings-with-jesus-3d "Be still and know that I am God” is one of the most beautiful verses from the Bible, but it’s not easy to practice in this busy world. Mornings with Jesus will help you do just that—“be still” in Jesus’ beautiful and powerful presence.

For those who are seeking a deeper experience in their relationship with Christ, Mornings with Jesus offers a fresh perspective of who Jesus is (the Healer, the Son of God, the Comforter, the Good Shepherd) and what that means for day-to-day life.

With a warm and friendly voice, 365 short devotional writings on the character and teachings of Jesus encourage readers to greet each day by drawing near to Him and inviting His presence into their day. Spend time with Jesus at the beginning of each day and experience His nearness and peace in a new way throughout the year. Each day’s selection includes:

  • a Bible verse
  • an entry based on Jesus: His words, miracles, and parables; His wisdom, compassion, and comfort; His mystery, power, divinity, and humanity
  • a “faith step” that will inspire and challenge readers to apply the day’s message to their lives

Heidi Says . . . I have been absolutely loving Mornings with Jesus!  Some of my favorite authors – such as Tricia Goyer and Camy Tang – are contributors to this book.  While each day’s reading is fairly short and takes little time to read, it is a great starting point for futher contemplation throughout the day.

One issue I often have with devotionals is that I tend to get frustrated if I get behind.  Early on in the year, I realized that it’s ok if I fall behind.  I had a “revelation moment” when I was reading one morning --- I was several days behind in my reading, and I posted this on my FB wall that day:

I'm a few days behind in my daily devotional - but that's ok because God knows exactly what we need and when. This morning, I was touched to read this Scripture and reminder fromTricia Goyer -

"'Are you the King of the Jews?' asked Pilate. 'You have sad so,' Jesus replied. The chief priests accused him of many things. So again Pilate asked him, 'Aren't you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.' But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed." ~Mark 15:2-5 (NIV)

The next time someone doesn't believe you . . . follow Jesus' example - be silent and allow YOUR ACTIONS TO SPEAK LOUDER THAN YOUR WORDS. (emphasis mine)

God does know exactly what we need!  So don’t allow yourself to get weighed down by the dates in your devotional book.  If you get behind, it’s ok.  God will use what you read to meet you where you are, on any given day!

This sounds so good. I am like you in that I get worried when I fall behind in a devotional book. I have been using the free Daily Bread booklets that they pass out at church and the bite size pieces fit into my busy life style. I think Mornings with Jesus would be really nice to have and because it has 366 entries I could be kept to use forever. :)

This is just what I've been looking for. So many times my mornings with Jesus are just a quick open the bible read a passage and move on with my day. I need and desire a more intimate morning with Him.

This looks like a wonderful book!  I am in the process of designing a new Sunday School program for my (very) small church's youth to participate in during the summer.  (We only have SS when school is in session... Sept-June.)  A little more insight would be extremely helpful!  Thnx!
