“You May Get Wet”

Blogorail Logo
Welcome to those of you joining me from Focused on the Magic and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 4th stop on our Magical Blogorail.  This month, we are sharing our favorite way to get wet at Walt Disney World.

Most of our visits to Walt Disney World take place during what is considered winter here in PA.  I’m not a fan of winter – the white stuff is pretty but I do not like driving in it and I’m not really a fan of being cold.  So, we try to plan our trips to Walt Disney World during a time when we feel like we are escaping the cold here at home!  Sometimes, that means that it’s not all that warm in FL either – though much warmer than here!  That, coupled with the fact that our kids are such varied ages, has kept us from visiting the Disney water parks (though it’s definitely on our list of things to do in the future).

MomPicturesDays&5 016But, the Disney water parks aren’t the only means of getting wet at Disney, right?  There are also the resort pools.  Again, though, if the temperatures aren’t all that warm outside, a dip in the pool isn’t all that fun.  Last year, we visited in May, and enjoyed some time in the pool at Port Orleans Riverside.  The girls loved the waterslide and Ian enjoyed walking (with me) under the sprinklers.  It was our first experience at a Disney resort pool – and we loved it!

Years ago, on our first family trip to Disney – when my now 18-year-old was just 5 – Kali River Rapids was just getting ready to open at Animal Kingdom and we got a sneak peek of it.  It was the last week of February – and Ashley got SOAKED!  It was not particularly warm that day – and I remember worrying that she’d get sick.  But, she was fine – and I don’t even think she complained to much.

Now, fast forward several years to our most recent visit to the World (this past January) . . .

MomPicturesDays&5 091 (2)I’ll admit – I’m a sucker for a water flume ride.  Any time we get to a local amusement park, I am totally fine with not riding at all – ‘til we pass the flume ride.  Then, I have to get on.  So, it’s been driving me crazy that my younger two kids were resistant to ride Splash Mountain the past few years.  This year, I warned them well in advance that we WERE, in fact, riding it this time –whether they liked it or not – so they better get geared up for it.  I even told them that you barely get wet on it.  Ummmm . . . in hindsight, I realize that might have been a lie.

I mean, seriously, there was that sign (above).  (Kinda reminds me of the year we went to see Sea World and wanted to watch the Shamu show – Brian assured us that if we sat in the top of the Splash Zone we wouldn’t  get wet.  He lied!)

MomPicturesDays&5 101 (2)Anyway, Gracie, Ian, and I got put in the front row of the ride.  Here’s what we looked like at the end ==>

We’re soaked.  I’m smiling, Ian is smiling.  But, Gracie . . . well, she was less than thrilled!  Most of us dried off, but she still had wet shorts hours later when we went to dine with Cinderella & friends at 1900 Park Fare.

MomPicturesDays&5 104 (2)For the record, I did apologize.  And I told her that we wouldn’t ride again ‘til her memory of this ride fades a bit – or at least not in the front row.
And, I think that we’ve come to the conclusion that we’d just as soon stay dry at Walt Disney World.

What about you?  What is your favorite way to get wet at Walt Disney World?  Please do share!

Thank you for joining me today. Your next stop on the Magical Blogorail Loop is Disney on Wheels.

Great post! We love Splash Mountain but have to be in the right frame of mind to do it. Love that you challenged your children to try something new!

My son got soaked on the Rapids ride in Animal Kingdom. It traumatized him. I don't think I could get him back on that one either.

I'm a wimp about getting wet. I always carry a rain poncho to wear on the wet rides so I can  get off the rides dry and happy!

I would have had the same look on my face as Gracie. We need to visit Disney together again so Gracie and I can go do something while you crazy people ride Splash Mountain and the Tower of Terror. :)

LOL! Gracie would love that! We'll be there the first week in September!

I am with Gracie on this one.  I won't ride it because I get way to wet.  Not a fan of walking around the park in wet underwear.  And I do believe that ride has it in for me.  Usually I am the ONLY one to get wet!

We rode that once during Thanksgiving and my niece and I got soaked! I really like the ride, but I don't enjoy being wet all day long!

Of course, I love Splash Mountain, too!
