A poem in memory of Sue

Sue loved writing poems!  As a matter of fact, she wrote a poem during one of her chemo treatments.  That poem was read at her funeral service.

I planned to write a poem in her memory, but my cousin Gina beat me to it.  She sent this poem to me a few weeks ago, and I’ve been wanting to share it.

For whatever reason, today was a bad day.  Sure, the sun was shining and I started out feeling really happy.  But, as the day went along, I just started feeling sad and missing Sue.  So, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to share my poem ---

*~Best Friends~*

We never know why these things happen
Why the best ones are always the first to go,
And as much as we would like to figure it out
It is something we will just never know.

Just be comforted with the love that surrounds you
And cherish the moments you had,
Remember the joy and the laughter
Along with the bad and the sad.

Know that no matter where you go
Or whatever you may do,
There will always be someone beside you
Who will always help you through.

Heaven has gained an angel
But you have lost a friend,
Find peace in your heart and mind
That you will end up together again in the end.

Keep her close to your heart
And honor her time on earth,
By sharing all your memories
Including your children’s’ births.

Tell the girls some stories
To help to get them through
And show them how great their mother was
And let them count on you.

You all will need to lean on each other
To get each other through,
But know that everyone is praying
And we are thinking of her family and you.

So March 5, 2010 is a date to remember
When the good Lord decided to call her,
So go on and celebrate the life that was lived
By your best friend Sue (whose last name rhymes with “her” but has been removed to protect her family’s privacy)!

(((((((((((hugs))))))))) It has now been a year since I love my Mom to cancer as well. Just know that there will always be good and bad days. Smile through the tears and continue to remember and cherish it all. It helps - some.
