Family Driven Faith by Voddie Baucham Jr.

49295_1_ftc_dp DOING WHAT IT TAKES TO RAISE SONS AND DAUGHTERS WHO WALK WITH GOD

More teens are turning away from the faith than ever before: it is estimated that 75 to 88% of Christian teens walk away from Christianity by the end of their freshman year of college. Something must be done.

Family Driven Faith equips Christian parents with the tools they need to raise children biblically in a post-Christian, anti-family society. Voddie Baucham, who with his wife has overcome a multi-generational legacy of broken and dysfunctional homes, shows that God has not left us alone in raising godly children. He has given us timeless precepts and principles for multi-generational faithfulness, especially in Deuteronomy 6. God’s simple command to Moses to teach the Word diligently to the children of Israel serves as the foundation of Family Driven Faith.

shapeimage_1 Voddie Baucham wears many hats.  He is a husband, father, pastor, author, professor, conference speaker and church planter.  He currently serves as Pastor of Preaching at Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, TX.  He has served as an adjunct professor at the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, TX, and Union University in Jackson, TN.  He has also lectured at Southern Seminary . . .

Voddie and his wife, Bridget have been married since 1989.  They have six children, Jasmine, Trey (Voddie, III), Elijah, Asher, Judah, and Micah.  They are committed home educators.

Heidi Says . . .  I actually finished this book last week, but I’ve been “sitting on it”, so to speak - trying to write my thoughts in my head and figure out an adequate way to describe my strong, positive feelings for this book.  I’m still not there, but decided to get this post up on my blog anyway, because I think it’s important to share with the world – especially Christian parents – about this book!

I’m going to be very bold here and say that IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN PARENT, YOU SHOULD READ THIS BOOK!  I think it needs to be in the home of every Christian family.  But I will warn you – Mr. Baucham doesn’t tread lightly – he boldly tells it like it is – and {spoiler alert} you may feel convicted. This book will most definitely change the way you feel about family, education, faith, and the church.

This was the first of Mr. Baucham’s books that I have read.  Previously, my husband read his What He Must Be . . . If He Wants to Marry My Daughter, and was really impressed (which is saying something because it’s hard to get Brian to read anything!)  My beliefs line up with Mr. Baucham’s and I appreciate his no-nonsense approach to sharing the gospel and its message.  I would definitely recommend this book (and I’m willing to share with anyone local who may be reading this review and would like to read the book).  I will also be reading more of Mr. Baucham’s books in the future and would love the opportunity to hear him speak someday!

*I would encourage you to read the rest of Voddie’s bio and to watch the YouTube videos of Voddie talking about Family Driven Faith.

I received this book for free as part of the Crossway Blog Review Program.  I was not compensated in any other way.  The thoughts contained herein are entirely my own.

I purchased/read this book about a year ago and LOVED it. I've shared it with a few friends as well. I agree, it should be *required* christian parent reading! :)
