30 Day Blog Challenge

Barbie from My Freshly Brewed Life is participating in the 30 Day Blog Challenge hosted by Katie at Katie’s Journey.  I thought it looked like fun, so I’m going to try to play along as well.  Heaven knows I could use some encouragement to blog (personal stuff) more regularly) – so hopefully this will be just what I need!  Topics for the full 30-day schedule can be found here

Day 1: introduce, recent picture, and 15 interesting facts

I’m Heidi.  I’ve been married to my husband, Brian, for 18 years.  We have 3 children – Ashley (16, almost 17), Gracie (10), and Ian (4).  Our younger 2 children are adopted from Vietnam; so, if you decide to start following my blog, you’ll soon figure out that adoption is a passion of mine. :)  Another of my passions is homeschooling my children.  I feed that passion by working part-time, from my home, for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, as their Special Projects Manager.  I personally think it’s the best job ever – even on the days when I’m stressed!  It’s hard to separate life from school and work around here – so if you read my blog, you get a little bit of everything, all rolled into one!  I turned 40 this past spring.  It didn’t seem like a big deal, because it came just a few weeks after losing my best friend to ovarian cancer (she didn’t see her 37th birthday, so it really put my turning 40 into perspective for me).

fall 2010 116 Here’s the most recent picture of me (with my kids) taken via the auto-time  feature on my camera – we were at the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, PA (last Wednesday) ===>

And my 15 probably-not-so-interesting facts (gee, I feel like I’ve been sharing lots of these lately – so some may be repeats!)  - - -

  1. I’m a leftie, and proud of it!
  2. I love to read and recently finished reading the Bible in 90 Days!
  3. I was an only child for almost 15 years – so I exhibit both only child and oldest child tendencies (yes, I believe in all the birth order stuff!)
  4. I married a youngest child.
  5. I thought I’d be an old maid, but I was married 3 weeks before my 22nd birthday.
  6. Our anniversary only rolls around once every 4 years.
  7. I pretty much despise sports – both playing and watching.
  8. I find celery disgusting and repulsive.
  9. I love to music and I love to sing.
  10. The only magazine I ever read cover-to-cover is The Old Schoolhouse Magazine (and that’s not because I work for them – I’ve been this way for years!)
  11. I have 3 very different children, which makes life interesting at my house.
  12. Some of my very best friends are people that I’ve met online.
  13. My favorite vacation destination is Walt Disney World.
  14. My favorite food is pretty much anything Italian.
  15. I’m slightly addicted to Mah Jong and play it on my iPod whenever I get the chance!

ah ha! More commonalities.

I was an only child for 6 1/2 years - not as long as you were - but that definitely made things different.

And I pretty much despise sports as well. Playing and watching. High five there!

So glad that you are going to join us for the blog hop...I think it is going to be so much fun! Your children are all so beautiful and so lucky to have a wonderful mother like you. I am looking forward to reading your posts over the next 30 days and I am sure after that too!

I love learning new things about my new "friends" (which I agree can be some of the best. I hate celery too! It's gross. I'm kind of an only child too. My brother is 7 years younger and my sister is 16 years younger. She basically grew up without her older sister (I was away at school or married.)
