Today I am thankful that Ian’s leg is all healed up from his break earlier this fall. In September, he fell while we were on a work-vacation in Williamsburg, VA. When we got home, we found out that he had quite a nice-sized fracture on the larger bone in his lower leg.
I’m thankful for our family doctor who ordered an x-ray right away, even though Ian’s leg “looked” fine. I’m thankful for the orthopedist that we were sent to who casted the leg. Having the cast certainly made for a long and interesting 4 weeks; but it did it’s trick.
When the cast came off, the x-rays showed a perfectly healed bone. It was 9 days after-cast before Ian even attempted to walk on that leg. And now, about 3 weeks later, he’s getting around great. He’s still limping just a bit, but nothing too drastic.
The doctor said that an adult with the same break would probably limp for at least a year, or even the rest of his/her life. He feels quite certain Ian’s limp will be gone in a month or less. Yesterday, he released Ian from his care.
While sitting in the waiting room yesterday, I noticed an article on the wall – about a physician who was serving in Vietnam during the war – who had to remove a bomb from inside a man. He got it out just seconds before it went off! Amazing stuff. That physician was Ian’s doctor’s father. I just thought that was neat.
I’m thankful for the people that God brings into our lives and I’m thankful for Ian’s healing.
