Christmas Idea #4 – Karaoke Revolution Glee

Let me preface this post by saying that we do NOT watch Glee.  I know nothing about the show, other than the few things that my nephew (who is a professed “Gleek”) has shared with me.  So, when the information about this game hit my e-mail a few months ago, I just deleted it.

51D9bGdLQlL._SL500_AA300_ Needless to say, we were quite surprised when this game arrived on our front porch the other week.  We weren’t expecting it and we certainly weren’t expecting to like it!  We saw on the box that it came with a microphone, which excited the girls (as they had been wanting one to play some games on the Grease game).  So, we opened it.

The kids popped it into the Wii and . . . they loved it!

I was sitting in the dining room, working while they played.  But, I was hearing songs from my past – Lean on Me and Can’t Fight This Feeling – among many others.  And I’m thinking “what is this game?”  So, I went to join the fun.

This is the first Karaoke type game that I have played, so I have nothing to compare it to.  But, it’s fun!  The girls get a kick out of me because I sway or dance while I’m singing.  LOL  Let’s just say, I’m glad nobody has a secret camera hidden in my house – I’m sure it’s not pretty.

There is such a wide variety of music on this game – I’m sure even my mom would enjoy singing along to some of them!  Since I’m no Glee expert, though, here are the specifics from the manufacturer:

Karaoke Revolution Glee is rated E 10+ (for lyrics and suggestive themes).  It is a multi-player game and can  be played by 1 player, all the way up to six players.

  • Perform to Popular Chart-Topping Tunes - Sing up to 30 top hits from Season 1
  • Gleek Out to Never-Before-Seen Clips from the Show - Perform to video montages including exclusive, unreleased show moments
  • Reach Hard-Hitting Notes to Perfect Your Singing Skills - Test your singing ability by belting it out to long, challenging notes in a myriad of ballads and show performances
  • Play Alongside Your Favorite Glee Club Character - Perform with characters from the show, including Rachel Berry, Finn Hudson, Will Schuester, and the rest of the cast
  • Compete in Multiplayer Singing Games - Play with a friend in duet or co-op mode to perfect your vocal harmonies, or play in an interactive Shooting Star Mode with up to 6 players
  • Unlock Bonus Content - Play through an immersive Scrapbook Mode and unlock themed items to customize your very own Glee scrapbook

The game recognizes pitch and rhythm.  While you are singing, there are clips from the show playing in the top portion of the screen.  Truth be told, I’m always too busy following the music to watch!

Ashley enjoys this game – she loves to sign anyway, so it’s just a way to feed that addiction!  Gracie, on the other hand, does not like to sing (she’d rather make music with the piano or the violin).  However, the few times I’ve caught her actually playing this game, it is just too cute!  She’s self-conscious of people hearing her, yet she sounds adorable.

If you have a “Gleek” in your life, I’d recommend this game as a gift.  You can get more information about the game at the official website.

NOTE: I did receive a free copy of this game, but was not obligated to share a review of it.  The thoughts expressed herein are entirely my own – I was not compensated in any other way.
