Christmas Idea #6 – The Christmas Journey by Donna VanLiere (& giveaway)

The internet is amazing in so many ways.  One such way is bringing people closer together.  Through book reviews and Facebook, I’ve been able to connect with author Donna VanLiere.  We have much in common.  She, too, has 2 daughters and 1 son.  Her children joined their family through adoption.  Though this woman is amazing and has written some awesome books (several of which have  been made into movies that we very much enjoy at our house), she’s a normal mom just like me!

I’ve read all of Donna’s books in the Christmas series (starting with The Christmas Shoes).  You can see all of her books here.  I have not read any of her other books, but I’m adding them to my Wish List.

9780312613723 This year’s book is The Christmas Journey

The eighty-mile journey of a common carpenter and a simple peasant girl is one of the most powerful stories in history. As books go out of print and stories fade from memory, the journey of Joseph and Mary and her delivery inside a common barn continues to bless and inspire hope in people around the world.

Accompanied by moving and beautifully rendered original watercolor illustrations throughout, Donna's signature voice retelling shows that the story of the Nativity is alive in our modern world.

At this time of year, when I’m busy doing other things to prepare for the holidays, I enjoy reading short little books.  This book was short – I read it one evening in bed – but it’s got a big message.  It’s basically a retelling of the Christmas story – something that we all need to be reminded of.

This book would make a wonderful gift for anyone on your Christmas list.  It would also be nice to read aloud to your family as a Christmas devotional.  You can read an excerpt of The Christmas Journey here.  You can read more about Donna VanLiere here

I LOVE Christmas books so I would keep this for me!! We like to sit and read as a family especially during Christmas. Right now we are reading our Jesse Tree devotionals but I'd love to add this to our evening time!
Thanks,
Crystal

I must admit, I would keep it. I have five girls and I am always trying to fill my shelves with boks that can be enjoyed over and over. Books that have meaning and are clean. I am sure this will be a wonderful addition to whomever gets it in the end Ü
