So tell me . . .

. . . who has purchased their own domain name
through blogger?

I’ve been “sitting on the fence” about this for months now and I’m getting ready to just do it.

But, I’m wondering . . .

What are the pros and cons?

Can you share your experience(s), please?

I’m not sure what domain name I should go with --- should I just stick with my name or try changing it to something more clever?  I know I definitely want to re-do the header and name it something a little “more me”.  Hmmm . . .

So much to think about!

I think....people already know you through your current name...if you can stick with it...do so! I love it!!!

I did this for my blog about 6 months ago. Nice thing is you can set your blogspot address to essentially forward to your new one. Meaning readers dont have to resubscribe to your blog, etc. To me, it helped create more of a personal identity not using the .blogspot address...

I've been contemplating this as well! Someone suggested wordpress to me... I'm just so comfortable with blogger... I'm not sure what to do yet.

It was very easy to do, Heidi. One thing you will have to do though is update your google analytics (if you use that) and insert the new code into your template. That was the only template work I had to do with the switch. Everything else was finding out where I had the blogspot address to change it.

Eventually, I would still like to switch to a self hosted Wordpress Blog. But, it's not in the budget to do that right now. That would also be extremely time intensive, since I know very little about html and I would be learning as I would be going along. (I like the point-and-click usability of blogger.)

Dropping the blogspot for a .com was easy to do but not an easy choice. Google makes the move painless. Everything is forwarded over for you, like mail when you move.
Picking the right domain name was the biggest challenge for me. I decided to just stay with mine. Thankfully it wasn't taken!
Switching to Wordpress didn't seem like it had any benefit for my blog.

I only see "pros" with doing it! I dropped the blogspot and haven't looked back. I am comfortable with blogger so despite their little glitches every now and then I chose to stay blogger....but I chose to drop the "blogspot" from my address. It was like shedding 10 pounds...lol.
