Needless to say, I was excited (and a bit apprehensive) when I found out that they had decided to make a movie based on The Shunning. I have to admit that while I enjoyed the movie version of The Redemption of Sarah Cain, I was also somewhat disappointed by the liberties that were taken to change up the original storyline.
Since The Shunning was the first Beverly Lewis book that I ever read – and it’s been many years – I wasn’t as “in touch” with the original storyline in order to compare it to the movie. I did really like the movie and was pleased to see Danielle Panabaker in the starring role (she’s a favorite of both of my girls).
Here’s a bit more about the movie:
Before she succumbs to cancer, the dying wish of Laura Mayfield-Bennett is to be reunited with the daughter she never knew. Unfortunately, that daughter, Katie Lapp, is a member of the Amish order. Katie is about to be married, but uneasy about the path ahead. Now she discovers the secret her parents have kept from her: she's adopted.
The film is based on the celebrated first novel of the best-selling "The Heritage of Lancaster County" book series from author Beverly Lewis. Stars Danielle Panabaker & Sherry Stringfield.
You can watch the trailer for the movie here. You can also find out more on Facebook.
I have one copy of The Shunning DVD to give away to one lucky reader! To enter, click the “read more” link below . . .

I love Beverly Lewis. This series was the first one I think I read by her, and one of my favorites. I really enjoyed The Postcard too. Can't wait to see The Shunning movie!
I actually read my first Beverly Lewis book a few months ago and it was The Shunning, so I guess that has to be my favorite :)

I love Beverly Lewis! I would love to own this movie!
Wow, what a great contest!!!
I love Beverly Lewis's books too, but I haven't read the last 2 series, I'm slipping...I'll have to put that on my to-do list :)
I've read most of her books. I enjoyed her recent Rose Trilogy and Seasons of Grace.
I used to live near an Amish Order and love to read about their life. I will have to see if CBD has any of her books on ebook.
I have followed the entire process of this film from the updates from Beverly Lewis on her Facebook page about production of "The Shunning" as a TV movie (which I missed as I didn't have cable or know anyone with the Hallmark Channel,) through the long wait for the DVD release. I passed a lot of the time with school work and reading every Beverly Lewis novel that I'm aware of, except for children's books and the new Rose Trilogy. Now I find myself in a position financially where I really can't afford to spend money on things that aren't necessities, so finding your page and this giveaway gives me hope that I might be able to see the movie than I'd though. As far as favorite novels, I'd have to say they would be the Abram's Daughters series, as it was the first I read and what got me interested in reading more from Beverly Lewis and more about the Amish in general. I visited Amish Country - drove, shopped, and dined in Lancaster, Bird-in-Hand, and many other Amish communities - back in June; it was great to see in person some of the places and routes Beverly writes of in her novels. It gave me a glimpse into the lives of real Amish people and now when I read more of her books and re-read the older ones, the places mentioned will be just as clear in my mind as they were when I visited them. I can't wait to see this movie, and getting it for free through your giveaway would be such a blessing!
I joined your page through Google Friend Connect. You will probably see it as "couponfreebie" as that is my Google account e-mail address. My name is actually Trisha. :)
I'm new to this author but I've heard RAVE reviews about the books. I'm excited for the chance to win this movie...I love finding new things! :)
I have heard of Beverly Lewis, but I am pretty sure I haven't read anything of hers.
