(I'd love to see the) Candlelight Processional

Blogorail Logo

Welcome to those of you joining me from Your Highway in the Sky
and those of you just hopping aboard.
I am the Final Stop on our Magical Blogorail.

I’m taking a trip on Magical Blogorail GREEN this week.
We’re sharing our favorite things about the holiday season at Disney.

By now, if you’ve joined us for the entire Blogorail Loop, you should have read about Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the Osborne Spectacle of Lights, the Gingerbread Houses, and Cinderella’s Wish

Disney goes all out for the holidays – from the decorations to the special events.  We have never actually visited over the holidays, so I feel a bit inadequate to talk about my favorite thing.  However, there is something that I’ve read about and seen pictures of that I think I’d really enjoy seeing . . .

 . . . the Candlelight Processional

Candlelight (1) Candlelight Processional is held at the American Adventure Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase, in the American Gardens Theater.  You can see it every night, starting the night after Thanksgiving through the end of December.  Each night features a special celebrity narrator who retells the Christmas story, while accompanied by a choir and a 50-piece orchestra. (Who knows?  Maybe one day Ashley will perform as a choir member or Gracie will join the orchestra with her voilin!)

It sounds like a very moving event, and it’s definitely something that I’m hoping to one day say that I have seen!

Candlelight According to the Disney website, this event is very popular and sells out quickly! A great way to assure that you have a seat for the processional is by purchasing a Candlelight Dinner Package, which includes a yummy lunch or dinner, seats for the show, and pre-arranged viewing of the fireworks.  More details can be found here.

This year’s schedule and celebrity narrator line-up is as follows:

American Gardens Theatre (5:00 p.m., 6:45 p.m., 8:15 p.m.)
11/25–11/27 — Mira Sorvino
11/28–12/01 — Michael W. Smith
12/02–12/03 — Geena Davis
12/04–12/06 — Edward James Olmos
12/07–12/09 — Isabella Rossellini
12/10–12/12 — Neil Patrick Harris
12/13–12/15 — Lorraine Bracco
12/16–12/18 — Chita Rivera
12/19–12/21 — Trace Adkins
12/22–12/24 — Susan Lucci
12/25–12/27 — Blair Underwood
12/28–12/30 — Marlee Matlin

If you were going to this event, when would you choose to go, based on the narrators?  My first choice would probably be Michael W. Smith (I’ve seen him in concert a few times, but it’s been years!), followed by Marlee Matlin (I’m guessing that would be a very moving performance).

Have you been to Disney over the Christmas holidays?  If so, what is your favorite holiday event? Please share!

***Special thanks to my friend Mary from Capturing Magical Memories for sharing the pictures you see in this post.

Candlelight Processional is probably one of the best things Disney does.  It really brings back the meaning of Christmas.  And in this day and age sometimes that is lost.  I recommend it to everyone!

In all my visits to Disney at the holidays, I've never seen Candlelight. Guess I should do that one day...

One of our violin teachers has been playing in the 50 piece orchestra especially for the candlelight processional.  We haven't gotten to see it in years.  It is always a long wait to get a decent seat, but it is very nice.
