miscellany monday ~ 3/26/12

Miscellany Monday @<br />lowercase letters

This past week has been really great, for so many different reasons.  So rather than reflect on my Monday and everything that I’ve got to do today, I’m going to use this opportunity to reflect back on this past week . . .

ONE – Last Tuesday was my birthday.  I turned 42 and you know what?  It’s no big deal.  Age is relative.  I posted on my blog early that morning about the people that I used to share my birthday with, how much I miss them, and why my birthday celebrations just aren’t so special anymore.

TWO – But, the really cool thing is that, while unplanned, that day turned out to be the day that we decided to open a Facebook page to announce our new online venture – Homeschool Mosaics.  We were overwhelmed with the response that we got – and it turned out to be a really wonderful birthday surprise!

If you haven’t yet heard of Homeschool Mosaics, please read this post first, then go “like” our Facebook page.  We’ve got big plans in the works for our website launch and Facebook Party next Monday – so you’ll want to be kept in the loop with what’s happening!

THREE – Last Thursday, after a few months off, I brought back the Destination Disney meme – and what a huge success it was!  Already, we’ve had 15 people link up to share their Top 10 Disney Attractions – and there’s still plenty of time left to join in the fun!  If you’re a Disney Lover, we’d love to have you join us.  You can see the schedule for the next 9 weeks here.

FOUR – On Friday, I spent the day with my mom, celebrating my birthday.  We went to Panera for breakfast (too bad they were all out of the spinach & bacon souffles – but the ham & swiss was pretty yummy too!)  We did some outlet shopping (gotta love the Disney outlet) and then went looking at some furniture and ended up at Target, where I bought a storage shelf for our “new” dining room.  The weather was beautiful and it was just a really nice day.

FIVE – I said “our new dining room” because early last week I got this brilliant idea to do some room-swapping at my house.  I live in an American Foursquare house (this layout isn’t exactly like ours, but the closest I could find, in that the living room is essentially 1/2 of the downstairs – ours is just the whole front 1/2, rather than the side).  Anyway, because our house is literally full of windows, doors, doorways, heaters, etc, it is really difficult and frustrating to rearrange, even though the rooms seem large.

I haven’t been satisfied with the lay-out of my living room for the past few years now (since we put in our pellet stove and added Max Lucado’s entertainment armoire to our room).  So, last week, Ashley and I moved some things around in the kitchen, and took my china cupboard out there. Then, we moved the piano and dining room set into the living room.  Oh, and we moved several computers and a lot of school stuff in there too.  We took our 2 couches into the dining room, along with the entertainment armoire.  And, while it’s far from complete (we really could use some new, smaller furniture), I think I like the changes.  There’s still a lot of work to do, but it’s coming along.

SIX – My mom, who has been technically challenged for quite awhile now (I think it’s a generational thing) wanted us to order her a Kindle last week. Smile  It should arrive today or tomorrow.  I think we’re both starting to realize the value of not having so many books filling our houses.  I do still love books, though – I can’t help myself.
