Heidi Says . . . I absolutely LOVE this cookbook!  I love cooking, but baking is really not my favorite.  I prefer simple, and simply doesn’t usually equal spectacular.  Not so, though, in the case of this cookbook.  With this cookbook, you start out with a basic cake or cookie mix, or some Bisquick or a Brownie mix – and you end up with something amazingly delicious.

The cookbook contains sections for making tiny desserts, cakes, cupcakes, cookies & bars, fruit desserts, and other desserts.  In addition, as described above, there is a bonus chapter on gluten-free desserts (those with special needs or food allergies will really appreciate the addition of this section).

fall 2010 065 We couldn’t wait to try one of the recipes, so we flipped to the “other desserts” section and found a recipe that sounded good for fall – Pumpkin Dessert Squares.  Even on my old Corelle dishes, you have to admit that this looks fabulous. Right?  The picture in the cookbook showed some cinnamon sprinkled on the Cool Whip.  I’d have never thought of doing that, but it added so much to the presentation of these bars!  This particular recipe started out with Bisquick and ended up delicious!

Each recipe in this book is featured on a 2-page spread.  The right side contains a large, full-color picture of the recipe.  The left side contains the recipe itself, along with a section called a “sweet note” – these are just simple little notes and tips to make your baking experience more pleasant.

We have a nice list of recipes that we’d like to try from this book, including Turtle Tart (which starts with oatmeal cookie mix) and Chocolate-Strawberry Shortcakes (which start with Bisquick).  There is so much to choose from in this book!

NOTE: I received a free copy of this cookbook from Wiley Publishing in exchange for my use of it and honest review.  I was not compensated in any other way.
