Coke vs. Pepsi (no, not really)

Remember the Coke & Pepsi wars from the 80’s?  (Maybe they’re still going on and I’m too naive to know since I no longer have cable tv.)  Anyway, I remember thinking to myself (as a teenager, no less), “how childish of them!  what if someone likes both drinks?!”  I mean, seriously, there are enough people who like one or the other (or both) that there’s no reason to be vindictive or mean, right?

Yesterday, I received an e-mail from a so-called Christian company, in which they were using similar tactics to promote their product.  The difference would be that it’s a newer company, trying to knock an older, more established one.  Using a play on words (or a pun) to do so seems not only unChristlike, but also extremely immature.  I mean, go ahead and promote your company and your product – but allow the people to either choose between the two (or like both).

The tactics I’ve seen (and heard) from this company are junior-highish at best.  Even if I did start out having any respect for them and interest in them (and/or their product), I would have lost it by now.  If you can’t promote your product on its own merit – but need to compare it to another similar (yet very different) product – there’s something wrong.  Just sayin’ . . .

There’s room in this nation and this world for more than one of any given product.  I mean, seriously, are there not a ton of Amish fiction books out there by various authors?  What about educational toys for children?  Jean manufacturers? Jewelry party plans?  Chicken restaurants?  (speaking of which, I’ve never heard Chick-fil-A knocking KFC)

To the above mentioned company (who I very much doubt is reading my blog, but in the off chance that they are) --- WWJD?  In the words of a wise Christian friend: “No bother, though, the LORD is in charge of us all. May He be glorified in all that WE do. May we never embarrass others or HIM with anything we do.”

Stepping down off my soapbox now . . .

Yes....I think it goes back to corruption...you know, how Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the Serpent...and then...Cain and Abel...it's been around.

Unf it's rampant everywhere....my this is better because I don't like 'that' or other stuff....

Just pray for them....maybe they have not had their eyes and hearts opened to that thought process yet...I think each Christian goes through various phases and as we grow closer to Christ he takes the peel off the onion and shows us the 'stink'....but, the onion is still 'good for us...with a LOT of vitamin c'......

HUGS! I get what u r saying...for sure...and no, we shouldn't compare...but, all do in some ways...some a LOT more than others...they'll ge there with a LOT of love and patience.

Is there room on that soapbox for me? I totally agree with you. That kind of tactics are in very poor taste, in my opinion.

I happen to be a Coke girl myself, but I'm so glad we have choices. My husband prefers Pepsi. So, see? One is not better than the other... It's a matter of personal preference. And sometimes a person may not even have a preference, and that's okay, too!

This doesn't appear to us Diet Coke addicts right?

BTW, the Pepsi-Coke wars continue. The latest ad we saw was Santa Claus vacationing somewhere sunny -- the Caribbean? And you can guess what he was drinking. ("Shhh. I'm on vacation.")
